Special Education Data Managers from Across the Pacific Gather at the Pacific Data Quality Collaborative Conference
The Hyatt Regency in Saipan played host to a gathering of Special Education and General Education Data Managers, Coordinators, and other key staff members from various Pacific entities at the Pacific Data Quality Collaborative conference, held from April 15-19, 2024. The event was organized by the FSM National Department of Education, Division of Special Services, which brought together a team of 10 individuals, including representatives from both the national level and the department of education in the four states.
The conference provided a platform for attendees to delve into discussions and presentations aimed at enhancing data collection and reporting practices. A major focus of the event was on ensuring compliance with IDEA data requirements for reporting, with valuable insights shared by the IDEA Data Center and other Technical Assistance Centers on best practices for maintaining quality data.
One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to explore the Student Information Data Systems of other Pacific entities and gain a broader perspective on data management strategies. Notable sessions included presentations on improving early literacy and a demonstration of a helpful app by the TextHelp TA center, offering attendees practical tools and ideas for enhancing their data practices.
The collaborative nature of the conference allowed for the exchanging of insights and experiences on data quality among participants from various Pacific entities. Discussions on OSEP monitoring and the guidance provided by the IDC for upcoming monitoring activities were particularly impactful, offering attendees a roadmap for navigating the complex landscape of data compliance and reporting requirements.
As the conference came to a close, participants left with a deeper understanding of best practices in data management and a renewed commitment to ensuring high-quality data collection and reporting in the field of Special Education across the Pacific region.
